Once the script is done, each group needs to practice enough so everyone is able to act out the dialogue without reading your script. - Assessment: After the holidays you will have your first formal evaluation. It will be a combined grammar and written assessment. Together we will decide what day the assessment will be. Class ended.

You will have two exams. One exam is the written exam and the other is a reading comprehension exam . The reading comprehension exam will be a text (You have never seen it before.) about cities and sevices . This week you will be preparing and practicing for your written exam. Your written exam will have two paragraphs. Eachparagraph needs to have a minimum of 200 words, and they will be about the following: 1) Talking about yourself 2) Describing a house or apartment. Important: Both paragraphs need to be well structured. Thus, you need an introduction sentence, the body, and a closing sentence for each paragraph. Also, it is important that you include transition words used in an effective way.

Outline of activities:
- Work in groups of 3 and brainstorm different types of services that are necessary for a town or city to serve the needs of its population. You will have at least 20 minutes brainstorm ideas. Then you will have another 15 minutes to come up with those ideas in Spanish. Once you are done, we will compare ideas as a whole class.
- Power Point # 1: Places in my hometown In this Power Point we will take a look at the different places we may go in out city.
- Power Point # 1: Places in my hometown. (Slide # 5) Today we will continue to look at the different places we may go in out city.
- Power Point # 1: Places in my hometown. (Slide # 13) Today we will continue to look at the different places we may go in out city.
- Power Point # 1: Places in my hometown. (Slide # 22) Today we will continue to look at the different places we may go in out city, and we will also see how to get from one place of a commercial neighborhood to another place by asking and giving directions.
- Today we will practice giving directions.
- We will work on a skit where you need to show the following: a) going to 4 different places around the city b) talk about why you need to go to these 4 different places c) talk about how you are going to get to these 4 places and why you choose the transportation you have chosen d) three moments where directions are given to three different places in the city e) one of the directions takes you to the wrong place f) surprise ending.
You will have two exams. One exam is the written exam and the other is a reading comprehension exam . The reading comprehension exam will be a text (You have never seen it before.) about cities and sevices . This week you will be preparing and practicing for your written exam. Your written exam will have two paragraphs. Eachparagraph needs to have a minimum of 200 words, and they will be about the following: 1) Talking about yourself 2) Describing a house or apartment. Important: Both paragraphs need to be well structured. Thus, you need an introduction sentence, the body, and a closing sentence for each paragraph. Also, it is important that you include transition words used in an effective way.
7. Transition Words you may use: y, también, además, adicionalmente, finalmente, en conclusión, and por último.
Paragraph # 1: Talking about yourself
This paragraph MUST have the following:
1. Name, age, birthday
2. Where you are from, where you live, languages you speak, where you study and what grade
3. 2 subjects you like and why and 2 subjects you don't like that much and why
4. 2 favorite sports you like and why and 2 favorite hobbies you like and why
5. Describe yourself: 3 physical traits and 3 character traits
This paragraph may have the following. (During the test you will find out how many, from the list below, you need to choose.)
1. Describe 3 family members (1 character trait and 1 physical trait for each)
2. Describe 2 friends (1 character trait and 1 physical trait for each)
3. Favorite actor/singer/model/sports figure/other famous person and why (only choose one)
4. Favorite place to visit and 2 reasons why it is your favorite
5. Favorite movie and 2 reasons why it is your favorite
6. Favorite food and 2 reasons why it is your favorite
7. Favorite drink and 2 reasons why it is your favorite
Paragraph # 2: Describing a house or apartment
For this paragraph you will get a Visual Prompt you have never seen before in class. The prompt will be the image of the floor plan of a house or apartment. You need to name and describe (only 1 description per living space) each different living space you see in the visual prompt. Also you need to name at least one object/furniture located in the living space and describe it. When you talk about the location of the different living spaces, please use prepositions of locations such as: al lado de, a la derecha de, a la izquierda de, en frente de, or detrás de.

Tasks1) To start off this unit, you need to get in groups of 3 people.
Your task is the following:
Brainstorm in your groups what is your definition of the term WELL BEING. Then think of at least 6 different types of well being and discuss what each means. Finally, get a poster paper and make a mind map that shows the central theme of Well Being and its meaning, the six different types of well being with an explanation for each, and an illustration from the internet (print/glue) that represents each well being example. Once you are done, you willshow your mind map and explain it to the class. Each group member needs to collaborate in the discussion, doing the poster mind map, and presenting to the class.
Your task is the following:

2) Video # 3 Watch this video on 10 tips to start a healthy life. After watching the video once, share with your partner some important ideas you understood from the video. You may share them in English.
3) Video # 3 Watch the video again (stop and start as needed) and copy the words and/or expressions you understand. Once you are done, compare your list with your partner. Who understood more words or expressions.
4) Video # 3 and Word document # 1 Open Word document # 1 (Script for Video 3). With the document open, listen to Video # 3 while at the same time you follow along with the script. Observe how many more words and expressions you were able to recognize verbally while looking at the script. Did reading the script make a big difference? Why? Discuss this with your partner.
5) Word document # 1 Take a look at the underlined verbs, and in your notebook write the following: a) the verbs you see in the present, past, and future b) Next to the verbs that you wrote, write their infinitive form in Spanish. c) Next to the infinitive form, write the meaning of the verb in English. You are responsible for knowing and using the vocabulary, expressions, and verbs in this word document.
6) Word document # 2 This document has the vocabulary list for video # 3. This is a list of 30 words in the infinitive (-ar, -er, -ir ending) form. Your are responsible for knowing the meaning of each verb, and you need to become very familiar with their conjugations in the 1) present 2) present continuous 3) immediate future 4) imperfect 5) past. I recommend you learn them in this order. Take a look at this list and practice with your partner the meaning in English of these words. Take about 10 minutes.
7) Word document # 3 In this document you will have the chance to practice the present conjugation of several of the verbs you learned from Word document # 2.

9) Writing task:
In this task you will have the opportunity to write a 5 paragraph essay (400 word) about your present health habits and your immediate future goals with respect to these health habits.
Specifically take a look at the following:
a) Eating habits (food and drinks)
b) Exercise habits (Stretching, Yoga, Weight lifting, or sports in general)
c) Resting habits (sleeping)
The idea of this essay is for you to reflect on your present health habits (Eating, Exercise, and Resting) and to decide on what changes you are going to make in the near future and why. These changes will allow you to have better health. Thus, you need to write about what you are currently doing in the above three areas and then write about the immediate changes you will make. For this essay you will be using the PRESENT tense and the IMMEDIATE future.

Below is the format you need to follow for this essay:
Paragraph # 1:
Introduction In this paragraph you need to write a clear description of what your essay is about. After reading the introduction, your reader should be clear on what is the purpose of your essay.
Paragraphs # 2 - 4:
Body In each of these paragraphs you will write about your current health habits ( Paragraph # 2: eating, Paragraph # 3: exercise, and Paragraph # 4: resting). After writing your current habits in each paragraph, you need to write about yourimmediate future plans to improve your current health habits and why you need to make these changes. Also, each paragraph needs an introduction and a closing sentence. Closing In this paragraph you will write the closing remarks that summarize what you want your reader to remember about your essay. Thus, this paragraph is very important.

b) use correct vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
c) use cohesive devices such as: also, moreover, furthermore, however, additionally, therefore, finally, and in conclusion.
d) Indent each paragraph
e) leave a space of two lines between each paragraph.
f) write 5 paragraphs
g) write at least 400 words.
10) Task: Watch Video # 2: Habits for a healthy life. Then, read the questions in Word document # 5: Questions about Video # 2. In this document there are about 28 questions in total. Go through the questions and make sure you look up any vocabulary and expressions that you don't understand. Finally, watch the video again and start answering each question. All the questions are in order. This is a listening comprehension exercise and it will take you some time to go through all the questions. Make sure you write and answer the questions in your NOTEBOOK. Also, work collaboratively with your partner or group when it comes to understanding the questions (You may divide the questions among your group in order to clarify what they mean, or the group may discuss each question at a time.) However, EACH one of you needs to read each question and listen to the video to find and write the answers. Putting forth the effort to understand the questions, understand the video, and writing the answers is YOUR INDIVIDUAL responsibility.
11) Task Word document # 6: Letter from Susana to Alejandra
In this task you need to do the following:
a) Read the word document and make sure you understand it completely (all words).
b) Write in your notebook all new vocabulary from this letter that you do not understand and write the meanings in English.
c) Take a look at all the underlined verbs in the letter and write them in your notebook exactly as they are written in the letter. Next to the verb, write what tense it is (present, past, immediate future, present continuous, infinitive, etc.), and the English meaning.
d) Answer the questions on Word document # 7 in complete sentences. The questions are about the letter Susana wrote to Alejandra.
12) Task Word document # 9: Well being review questions
In this task you need to make sure that you are able to answer all questions appropriately. The answers to these questions are in the videos we have watched. I encourage to work with a partner to discuss the answer to this questions. Also, practice asking these questions to each other.
13) Task For this task you need to watch one of the six videos we have not seen. After seen it thoroughly, you need to share with the class what the video is about. You need to touch upon the following points:
a) The main content of the video
b) What the video recommends and why
c) What surprised you about the content you learned and why
d) What you agree with and why
e) What you don't agree with and why
f) What part of the video are you going to include in your daily routine and why.
g) Your favorite part of the video and why
h) The least favorite part of the video and why
You need to present this information through a poster, video, Prezi, Power Point, or skit. We will present the first week we come back from our Winter Break.
